The event once again had a strong nationwide and international character, bringing together goalkeepers from many different parts of Greece, as well as from abroad. Participants travelled from Chios, Santorini, Thebes, Alexandroupoli, Trikala, Lesvos, Larissa, Kavala, Agrinio, Milos, Aegina, Evia, Laconia and Samos, while goalkeepers also joined the programme from countries such as the United States and the United Arab Emirates.

This year’s camp was further strengthened by the presence of two highly experienced international goalkeeper coaches: Serbian Head GK Coach of the FK Crvena Zvezda Academy, Dušan Gašić, and English goalkeeper coach of Liverpool Women, Andrew Lonergan.

The two guest coaches brought different football experiences, modern coaching ideas and valuable know-how to the camp, giving the participants the opportunity to work in a demanding, high-level training environment.

For the young goalkeepers, the opportunity to learn from professionals who have worked and competed in elite football environments was one of the most valuable aspects of the camp. Through theory, practical application and direct guidance on the pitch, the athletes were able to gain a deeper understanding of the demands of the position and work on details that can make a real difference in their development.

The first day of the camp placed particular emphasis on mental preparation and the proper management of mistakes. Mental coach Sakis Stathakis spoke to the goalkeepers about the importance of mistakes in football and the way an athlete must react, remain focused and continue with a clear mind. For a goalkeeper, a mistake can be immediate and visible, but the real difference lies in the reaction and in the management of the next action.

Another important part of the opening day was the specialised ergometric assessment of the participants, held under the supervision of fitness coach Iakovos Chasapis and his team. The results of the assessment were then used to help shape the training programme of the following days, making the work on the pitch even more targeted and adapted to the needs of the athletes.

The second day was dedicated to Dušan Gašić’s programme. It began with a seminar on the methodology of training elite goalkeepers at the FK Crvena Zvezda Academy and continued on the pitch, where theory was turned into practice.

The goalkeepers were divided into eight subgroups, with each group working under the guidance of a goalkeeper coach and applying Dušan Gašić’s exercises and instructions in real training conditions. Their exposure to the Serbian football school gave the athletes the opportunity to experience a different working philosophy, based on discipline, intensity, methodology and high standards.

The third day also held a special place in the programme, as it was dedicated to Andrew Lonergan, with both a seminar and practical application on the pitch. The programme focused on key situations in the modern game, including defending the area, cutbacks, block saves, crossing and second ball recovery.

Through these specific units, the goalkeepers worked on positioning, reaction speed, decision-making and the effective management of situations inside and around the box. These are details that often define a goalkeeper’s performance in real match conditions.

The third day also featured a dedicated nutrition seminar, delivered by clinical dietitian and nutritionist Sofia Mavreli, who highlighted the importance of proper nutrition in performance, recovery and overall athletic development.

The 15th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar was another important educational experience for the goalkeepers of Athens Goalkeepers Academy, as well as another example of the Academy’s consistent effort to offer young athletes modern training stimuli, international expertise and real development opportunities.

The impressions left by several of the participants during the assessment process were very positive, as both guest coaches from abroad acknowledged. As a result, some of the participating goalkeepers are expected to be invited to travel abroad in the near future for further assessment by foreign clubs.

Athens Goalkeepers Academy is once again pulling together an impressive lineup for what has become the premier annual event for goalkeepers and GK coaches in Greece — and this year’s edition promises to be the biggest yet.

Two highly regarded European goalkeeper coaches, each with extensive experience at some of the continent’s top clubs, will serve as lead instructors at the 15th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar, running from 18 to 21 June 2026 at Renti Arena.

English coach Andrew Lonergan and Serbian counterpart Dusan Gasic will headline the event as AGA’s special guests, bringing a wealth of knowledge and top-flight pedigree to what is shaping up to be a landmark occasion.

Training, evaluation and a genuine pathway abroad

Alongside AGA’s technical staff and scientific partners, the two coaches will deliver hands-on coaching sessions and seminars for both goalkeepers and GK coaches throughout the camp. Young goalkeepers will also be individually assessed across daily training sessions, with the standout performers earning the chance to travel abroad for further trials with clubs in Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and England.

The coaches in focus

Andrew Lonergan currently serves as goalkeeper coach at Liverpool Women, a role he has taken on following a playing career that reached the very top of the English game. As a shot-stopper, Lonergan was part of Liverpool’s first-team squad during their historic 2019–20 campaign, picking up both the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup along the way.

Dusan Gasic, meanwhile, is one of Serbia’s most respected figures in goalkeeping development. He currently holds the position of Head Goalkeeper Coach at Red Star Belgrade’s Academy, having also worked with the club’s senior side at various points throughout his career.

All attendees, whether players or coaches, will receive an official Certificate of Participation, personally signed by both Lonergan and Gasic.

A Spanish flavour and a summer programme discount

The action doesn’t stop there. Hot on the heels of the 15th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar, AGA will launch its Summer Goalkeeper Preparation Programme, a three-week intensive running daily, Monday to Friday, from 29 June to 17 July 2026, also at Renti Arena.

The programme will be led by Spanish goalkeeper coach Roberto Dominguez Esteban, adding yet another international dimension to AGA’s summer offering.

The Athens Goalkeepers Academy delegation arrived in Madrid on Monday, April 13, as part of its 26th official educational trip abroad, which will run through Sunday, April 19.

The delegation consists of 16 goalkeepers. Ten are part of AGA’s regular training program, while two represent the affiliated Rizos Goalkeeper Academy (Kavala). A further four goalkeepers are participating from partner goalkeeper schools in Thebes, Samos, and Germany.

During the program, the athletes will train and attend educational seminars at the facilities of leading Spanish clubs, including Atlético Madrid and Rayo Vallecano, under the guidance of the clubs’ goalkeeper coaches.

The delegation is led by Christos Lamprou, Head of Athens Goalkeepers Academy.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper joined the club’s B team last January, moving from Greece to Spain and taking an important step forward in his football career. At AGA, we are proud to see another one of our athletes progressing and turning his dreams into reality.

Petros trained with our academy for the past 10 years, consistently following AGA’s methodology and principles, which played a key role in his development, combined of course with his hard work and the support of his family.

In addition to his regular training sessions, he participated in four AGA educational trips abroad across three different countries, as well as in almost all of the academy’s Goalkeeping Camps.

His most recent participation was at the 5th Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar, held during the Christmas period (December 27–30, 2025), just a few days before completing his transfer.

Athens Goalkeepers Academy wishes him every success in this new chapter of his career and, of course, we will always stand by his side.

Mr. Lamprou also visited the training facilities of the VK1 Goalkeeper Academy, one of the most respected goalkeeper academies in Serbia, known for its strong contribution to the development of young goalkeepers. There, he met and held discussions with the academy’s goalkeeper coach Nikola Josimovic.

It is worth noting that all those involved were already familiar with the work of Athens Goalkeepers Academy in Greece and internationally. The athletes, one of whom comes from Agrinio and the Agrinio Goalkeepers Academy, are accompanied by the Head of the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, Christos Lamprou.

According to the schedule, they will remain in Spain until Sunday (January 11), visiting the training centers of collaborating LaLiga clubs and their academies, where they will train, receive further education, and undergo additional evaluation at the highest professional level.

The day began with the speech of 16-year-old goalkeeper Giorgos Pappas, who followed the full AGA pathway (Camps, Summer Preparations, Educational Trips) and transferred to Rayo Vallecano in the summer of 2025.

In Memory of Velissarios Zafeiroulis

The 5th Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Coaches Seminar was dedicated to the memory of Velissarios Zafeiroulis, who passed away on December 27th.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper had been part of the AGA family in previous years.

A one-minute silence was held during the Camp in his honor.
