The young goalkeepers, all under the age of 19, stood out through the evaluation process that took place during the Academy’s two most recent Camps:

• The 14th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar, held in the summer of 2025, with guest coaches Manuel Amoroso, Head Goalkeeping Coach of Inter Academy, and Colin Stewart, coach and instructor of the Scottish Football Association

• The 5th Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Coaches Seminar, which concluded a few days ago, with Josemi Rodriguez, Goalkeeping Coach of Rayo Vallecano, as the lead instructor.

The athletes, one of whom comes from Agrinio and the Agrinio Goalkeepers Academy, are accompanied by the Head of the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, Christos Lamprou.

According to the schedule, they will remain in Spain until Sunday (January 11), visiting the training centers of collaborating LaLiga clubs and their academies, where they will train, receive further education, and undergo additional evaluation at the highest professional level.

For yet another year, the Athens Goalkeepers Academy (AGA) brings to Greece two top goalkeeper coaches from abroad to train goalkeepers and coaches and evaluate young goalkeepers.

Spaniard Toni Doblas from Real Betis and Portuguese Nelson Pereira, who was the GK Coach for Sporting Lisbon for many years, are the two guest coaches at the 13th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar, which will take place from July 4th to 7th at Renti Arena.

These two experienced GK Coaches will teach the secrets of modern and effective goalkeeper training to both goalkeepers and coaches through daily seminars. They will personally train the participating goalkeepers and evaluate them. Those athletes who are deemed ready will have the opportunity to travel abroad for further training and trials with European clubs.

Toni Doblas: The Assistant of Manuel Pellegrini

Toni Doblas has been working with the first team of Real Betis since the 2019-20 season, serving as the immediate assistant to Manuel Pellegrini and goalkeeper coach for international players such as Claudio Bravo (Chile) and Rui Silva (Portugal). During this period, the team has experienced its best performance in LaLiga in the past 20 years, consistently securing positions that lead to European competitions. In fact, over the last three years, Betis has reached the knockout stages of the Europa League and Conference League each season, and in 2022, they won the Copa del Rey in the final against Valencia!

Nélson Pereira: The GK Coach of Rui Patrício Alongside Top Coaches

After a long career as a goalkeeper, playing for Sporting Lisbon and the Portuguese National Team, Nélson Pereira became a highly successful goalkeeper coach. In this role, he worked on the technical staff of Sporting, initially at the Academy and then with the first team for 8.5 years (2012-2020), winning five titles: 2 Portuguese Cups, 2 League Cups, and 1 Super Cup.

During this time, he was the immediate assistant to several prominent coaches such as Jorge Jesus, Marco Silva, Leonardo Jardim, Ricardo Sá Pinto, Jesualdo Ferreira, Frank Vercauteren, José Peseiro, and Rúben Amorim. He also served as the GK Coach for 7 years for Rui Patrício, the starting goalkeeper of the Portuguese National Team, as well as the international goalkeeper Beto!

In recent years, he has worked as a football analyst on Portuguese television.

The entire coaching and scientific team of the Athens Goalkeepers Academy will, of course, be present at the Camp.

Mr. Navajas will work with the team’s new coach, Martin Lasarte and the great goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo. They have collaborated successfully in the past in LaLiga, with Mr. Navajas helping Claudio Bravo in the development of his great career.

Roberto Navajas was in Greece as a guest of AGA at the Christmas Camp 2019. There, he had the opportunity to evaluate goalkeepers and pass on his knowledge to them, as well as to the coaches, through daily seminars and training.

This is another “award” for AGA, which is the leading Goalkeeping Academy in Greece. The happiness that is ”painted” in the smile of our athletes when they make their dreams come true is our greatest reward.

In the North Group

The two goalkeepers will be part of the North Group of the U19 Greek National Team. The Technical Director of the Greek Football Federation, Mr. Costas Konstantinidis, decided that the U19 team will gather for training in two groups: North and South, because of the pandemic.

The players of the U19 National Team will participate in the next few days in training sessions and friendly matches. The aim is to stop their abstinence from training and prepare for the qualifiers of the European Championship.

Who is who: Dimos Makris

Dimos Makris was born in 2002, he is playing for Aris Thessaloniki and has followed for years the training program of Athens Goalkeepers Academy.

In January 2020 he went to the UK, in order to have tryouts with clubs such as Liverpool and Rangers. After this, Makris and the Head of our School, Mr. Christos Lambrou, went in Italy. There, Makris was trained and evaluated by the technical staff of Genoa, at its training center. Despite the fact that his tryouts were successful and the Italians liked it, the transfer was not able to proceed, due to the pandemic.

For the same reason Makris did not manage, three months later, in April 2020, to travel to Spain. The talented goalkeeper was among those who were evaluated and selected to go to Spain, in order to have tryouts by LaLiga clubs. However, that trip was unfortunately canceled due to covid-19.

Who is who: Vangelis Kontogiannis

Vangelis Kontogiannis was born in 2002, he is a player of Panetolikos and has also been part of the training program of AGA. The talented goalkeeper joined our Academy during the Summer Camp of 2019 and was evaluated by the Head Goalkeeping Coach of Liverpool’s Academy, Mr. Mark Morris, whom AGA brought to Greece, in the context of our cooperation.

In fact, Kontogiannis was among the goalkeepers who were selected to travel to Britain together in January 2020, in order to have tryouts by clubs such as Liverpool and Rangers. This is a clear sign of his worth, although he eventually chose not to follow, remaining loyal to his current team.

In September 2020 Kontogiannis signed his first professional contract with Panetolikos.

As part of the educational program of Athens Goalkeepers Academy, which every year gives its athletes the opportunity to test their strengths in some of the most important clubs in Europe, Makris traveled to Italy with the head of AGA, Mr. Christos Lamprou.

The goalkeeping staff of the italian club was impressed by Makris during the training program. Unfortunately, the the transfer process wasn’t able to progress because of the pandemic.
