]]> The 5th Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Coaches Seminar of the Athens Goalkeepers Academy (AGA) was successfully completed at Renti Arena (27–30/12/2025).

A landmark Camp that keeps growing year after year, bringing to Greece top-level expertise and goalkeeper coaching from European football, such as this year’s guest coach Josemi Rodriguez (Rayo Vallecano).

With increased participation from all over Greece and abroad, the event once again confirmed the high standards of the AGA training program and the trust it has established.

All participating goalkeepers were evaluated by the AGA coaching staff and Josemi Rodriguez. Those selected will have the opportunity to join our upcoming educational trips to Spain, as well as to Italy and the Netherlands.

Day 1

• Seminar: “Breathing for Performance: a competitive advantage for the athlete” – Instructor: Dr. Athanasios Tzigkitzelas

Proper breathing was analyzed as a tool for:

– controlling mind & body

– managing stress and match-day pressure

– stabilizing performance

• Performance & Fitness Testing – Lead Coach: Iakovos Hasapis, Strength & Conditioning Coach

Physical tests and individual performance metrics were conducted to identify specific needs and tailor the training approach.

Detailed reports were emailed to all athletes and added to their personal development files.

Day 2

• Nutrition Seminar: “The importance of nutrition for optimal performance and health of goalkeepers” – Instructor: Sofia Mavreli

Practical guidance on nutrition, sleep, recovery, and support for young athletes, also attended by parents.

• Josemi Rodriguez Program: “Develop your sixth sense as goalkeepers”

Training focused on:

– the 5 senses as performance tools

– spatial awareness

– anticipation & decision-making under pressure

– neuromuscular adaptation and reaction drills

Day 3

Giorgos Pappas (Rayo Vallecano): “If it wasn’t for the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, none of this would have happened”

The day began with the speech of 16-year-old goalkeeper Giorgos Pappas, who followed the full AGA pathway (Camps, Summer Preparations, Educational Trips) and transferred to Rayo Vallecano in the summer of 2025.

“If it wasn’t for the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, none of this would have happened,” he stated, referring to his trust in the AGA Training Methodology and his journey to Spain.

• Josemi Rodriguez Seminar: Errors & Mistakes

Mistakes as tools for improvement rather than failure.

Pathway → management → growth.

• On-field Training: Explosive strength, 1vs1 & technical stops

Modern goalkeeper applications at competitive speed and match-like intensity.

Day 4

The final day included tactical games and the traditional Challenge Games, filled with intensity, competition, and adrenaline.

The winners of the three categories received professional goalkeeper gloves sponsored by FEARLESS.

All participants received their certificate of participation, signed by Josemi Rodriguez and AGA Head Coach, Christos Lamprou.

In Memory of Velissarios Zafeiroulis

The 5th Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Coaches Seminar was dedicated to the memory of Velissarios Zafeiroulis, who passed away on December 27th.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper had been part of the AGA family in previous years.

A one-minute silence was held during the Camp in his honor.

Safe journey, Velissarios. You will never be forgotten.

The Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Coaches Seminar of the Athens Goalkeepers Academy returns for the 5th consecutive year, aiming once again to be a national benchmark in goalkeeper education and evaluation. The event, which brings together a large number of goalkeepers and GK coaches from across Greece —as well as from abroad— will take place at Renti Arena from December 27 to 30, 2025, featuring Josemi Rodriguez as the main instructor.

THE COACH WHO BROUGHT GIORGOS PAPPAS TO RAYO VALLECANO

Josemi Rodriguez is the goalkeeper coach of Rayo Vallecano and the person who evaluated Giorgos Pappas during the Athens Goalkeepers Academy’s educational trip to Spain — opening the door for him to join the Madrid club last summer.

At the upcoming 5th Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Coaches Seminar, his goal is to share his invaluable expertise with all participating goalkeepers and coaches. Athens Goalkeepers Academy (AGA) is breaking new ground once again by bringing another top European football goalkeeping coach to Greece!

Jon Pascua will be the lead instructor at the 4th Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Coaches’ Training, organized by our Academy in collaboration with the Panhellenic Goalkeepers Network from December 27–30, 2024 (daily, 09:00–13:00) at Renti Arena.

WHO IS JON PASCUA

Jon Pascua is one of Spain’s most renowned goalkeeping coaches. He has worked with prestigious teams such as Barcelona, Marseille, Real Betis, and Athletic Bilbao, collaborating with top coaches like Quique Setién, Roberto De Zerbi, Igor Tudor, Jorge Sampaoli, Gennaro Gattuso, and Marcelino, as well as world-class goalkeepers like Marc-André ter Stegen!

The 52-year-old Spaniard was also a keynote speaker at the “International Goalkeeping Coaches Conference,” hosted online by Athens Goalkeepers Academy in April 2020 during the lockdown. At that time, he was part of Barcelona’s first-team staff. The webinar attracted dozens of professional coaches and goalkeepers from various countries.

In addition to his coaching accomplishments, Mr. Pascua is the author of the book “Technical Manual for Football Goalkeepers” and a devoted reader of ancient Greek philosophy!

The Athens Goalkeepers Academy (AGA) and the Greek Goalkeeping Network by AGA hosts the ”3rd Panhellenic Camp for Goalkeepers & GK Coaches” between 27-30 December 2023 at Renti Arena (Athens), with a special guest: Luca De Pra!

The long-time goalkeeping coach of the first team and now of the Genoa Academy has worked and developed top goalkeepers such as the internationals with the Italian National Team, Marco Amelia (World Cup winner in 2006), Mattia Perin, Federico Marchetti, the French international, Sébastien Frey, and many others.

The experienced GK Coach will train goalkeepers and teach GK Coaches through daily training sessions and seminars. He will also evaluate the participating goalkeepers. Those who are deemed ready and capable will have tryouts for major European football clubs.

Goalkeepers from 8 to 20 years old can participate to the ”3rd Panhellenic Camp for Goalkeepers & GK Coaches”. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance signed by Luca de Pra.

]]> The “2nd Panhellenic Camp for Goalkeepers and Coaches”, held at Renti Arena by the Athens Goalkeepers Academy and the Greek Goalkeeping Network (December 27-30, 2022), was finished in the best way.

The guest coach from the Netherlands, Mr. Rene Stam, was impressed by the participating goalkeepers. He congratulated them for their effort and evaluated them in collaboration with the Head of the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, Mr. Christos Lamprou. In the near future, those who have been deemed ready will have the opportunity to travel to the Netherlands to be evaluated by clubs in the country.

Dozens of goalkeepers from all over Greece and abroad, as well as GK Coaches, attended the Camp. Among them were, of course, representatives of the other four member Academies of the Greek Goalkeeping Network:

  • Gk Goalkeeper Academy (Chania)
  • Goalkeeper School Academy (Ilia)
  • Rizos Goalkeeper Academy (Kavala)
  • Argolida Goalkeepers School (Argolida)

The “2nd Panhellenic Camp for Goalkeepers and Coaches” had a full program of training, evaluation and entertainment.

Goalkeepers, coaches, as well as parents, had the opportunity to attend daily seminars by expert scientists and coaches.

At the same time, on the pitch the goalkeepers followed the training program of Mr. Stam, who has previously worked for 12 years at the Ajax Academy as Head Goalkeeping Coach.

As happens in every Camp of our Academy, every athlete had an ergometric test.

In addition, the Mentor Goalkeeping introduced to the participants the Virtual Reality Training program, allowing them to enjoy an unprecedented experience.

The “GK Goalkeeper Academy” from Chania, Crete, the “Rizos Goalkeeper Academy” from Kavala and the “Goalkeeper School Academy” from Pyrgos, Ilia were our official guests. The young goalkeepers were evaluated by the Athens Goalkeepers Academy and the best of them will be evaluated by big european clubs.

The beginning

On Monday (27/12), on the 1st day of the Camp, coaches, athletes and parents arrived early in the morning at the Renti Arena. The Head of the AGA Agency, Mr. Konstantinos Lamprou, scanned the certificates and rapid tests of the participants.

During the first seminar, the successful Sports Scientist of the Human Performance Lab and the National Football Team of Greece, Mr. Giannis Kotsis, commented the importance of nutrition for young goalkeepers in modern football.

After that he and his associates made an ergometric evaluation for the participating athletes, specialized for the position of goalkeeper.

Mr. Kostas Gyparis gave a seminar on the training of the goalkeeper in modern football and the usefulness of video analysis in it. The Head of GK Goalkeeper Academy also presented the philosophy of his Academy, which does an excellent job in Chania!

The AGA Training Methodology and the evaluation

On the 2nd day of the Camp, Mr. Christos Lamprou as the main speaker of the seminar. The Head of Athens Goalkeepers Academy presented to the participating athletes, coaches, but also to the parents, the main points of the AGA Training Methodology, which has made AGA the leading Goalkeeping School in Greece.

Soon after, everyone came out on the field to start the evaluation exercise program.

In the afternoon of the same day, Mr. Christos Lamprou had a meeting with Mr. Kotsis, from whom he received the results of the ergometric evaluation.

Challenge

The last day of the Panhellenic Camp for Goalkeepers and GK Coaches, in its seminar leg, included speeches by the Head of Athens Goalkeepers Academy, Mr. Christos Lamprou, the Head of Rizos Goalkeeper Academy (Kavala City), Mr. Dimitris Rizos, and the Head of Goalkeeper School Academy (Pyrgos City), Mr. Andreas Antonopoulos.

Soon after, the participating athletes received the Certificates of Participation in the “Panhellenic Camp for Goalkeepers and GK Coaches”.

This was followed by the most enjoyable part of the training – evaluation program, which included challenge games. The winners were the goalkeepers Rigas Alexiadis and Marios Konstantinos Trizis.
