]]> Athens Goalkeepers Academy congratulates Petros Kalosakas on his transfer to Spanish club SD Huesca.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper joined the club’s B team last January, moving from Greece to Spain and taking an important step forward in his football career. At AGA, we are proud to see another one of our athletes progressing and turning his dreams into reality.

Petros trained with our academy for the past 10 years, consistently following AGA’s methodology and principles, which played a key role in his development, combined of course with his hard work and the support of his family.

In addition to his regular training sessions, he participated in four AGA educational trips abroad across three different countries, as well as in almost all of the academy’s Goalkeeping Camps.

His most recent participation was at the 5th Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar, held during the Christmas period (December 27–30, 2025), just a few days before completing his transfer.

Athens Goalkeepers Academy wishes him every success in this new chapter of his career and, of course, we will always stand by his side.

]]> The Head Coach of Athens Goalkeepers Academy, Christos Lamprou, recently visited the facilities of Red Star Belgrade during a five-day stay in the Serbian capital (February 26 – March 2), as part of an initiative aimed at exchanging coaching philosophy and technical expertise.

Accompanied by his close friend and collaborator Sasa Radulovic, Mr. Lamprou had the opportunity to attend training sessions and matches across several age groups of the historic Serbian club. During his visit, he also exchanged ideas and experiences with Red Star’s goalkeeper coaching staff, including the Academy’s Head Goalkeeper Coach Dusan Gasic and Marko Trkulja.

Mr. Lamprou also visited the training facilities of the VK1 Goalkeeper Academy, one of the most respected goalkeeper academies in Serbia, known for its strong contribution to the development of young goalkeepers. There, he met and held discussions with the academy’s goalkeeper coach Nikola Josimovic.

It is worth noting that all those involved were already familiar with the work of Athens Goalkeepers Academy in Greece and internationally. Mr. Lamprou received a particularly warm welcome, while engaging in productive discussions that covered not only technical aspects of goalkeeper training but also topics related to academy organization and the development of innovative projects.

Initiatives such as this reflect the outward-looking philosophy of AGA and help create opportunities for new international collaborations, always with the aim of advancing the development of both coaches and athletes.

The young goalkeepers, all under the age of 19, stood out through the evaluation process that took place during the Academy’s two most recent Camps:

• The 14th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar, held in the summer of 2025, with guest coaches Manuel Amoroso, Head Goalkeeping Coach of Inter Academy, and Colin Stewart, coach and instructor of the Scottish Football Association

• The 5th Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Coaches Seminar, which concluded a few days ago, with Josemi Rodriguez, Goalkeeping Coach of Rayo Vallecano, as the lead instructor.

The athletes, one of whom comes from Agrinio and the Agrinio Goalkeepers Academy, are accompanied by the Head of the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, Christos Lamprou.

According to the schedule, they will remain in Spain until Sunday (January 11), visiting the training centers of collaborating LaLiga clubs and their academies, where they will train, receive further education, and undergo additional evaluation at the highest professional level.

A landmark Camp that keeps growing year after year, bringing to Greece top-level expertise and goalkeeper coaching from European football, such as this year’s guest coach Josemi Rodriguez (Rayo Vallecano).

With increased participation from all over Greece and abroad, the event once again confirmed the high standards of the AGA training program and the trust it has established.

All participating goalkeepers were evaluated by the AGA coaching staff and Josemi Rodriguez. Those selected will have the opportunity to join our upcoming educational trips to Spain, as well as to Italy and the Netherlands.

Day 1

• Seminar: “Breathing for Performance: a competitive advantage for the athlete” – Instructor: Dr. Athanasios Tzigkitzelas

Proper breathing was analyzed as a tool for:

– controlling mind & body

– managing stress and match-day pressure

– stabilizing performance

• Performance & Fitness Testing – Lead Coach: Iakovos Hasapis, Strength & Conditioning Coach

Physical tests and individual performance metrics were conducted to identify specific needs and tailor the training approach.

Detailed reports were emailed to all athletes and added to their personal development files.

Day 2

• Nutrition Seminar: “The importance of nutrition for optimal performance and health of goalkeepers” – Instructor: Sofia Mavreli

Practical guidance on nutrition, sleep, recovery, and support for young athletes, also attended by parents.

• Josemi Rodriguez Program: “Develop your sixth sense as goalkeepers”

Training focused on:

– the 5 senses as performance tools

– spatial awareness

– anticipation & decision-making under pressure

– neuromuscular adaptation and reaction drills

Day 3

Giorgos Pappas (Rayo Vallecano): “If it wasn’t for the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, none of this would have happened”

The day began with the speech of 16-year-old goalkeeper Giorgos Pappas, who followed the full AGA pathway (Camps, Summer Preparations, Educational Trips) and transferred to Rayo Vallecano in the summer of 2025.

“If it wasn’t for the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, none of this would have happened,” he stated, referring to his trust in the AGA Training Methodology and his journey to Spain.

• Josemi Rodriguez Seminar: Errors & Mistakes

Mistakes as tools for improvement rather than failure.

Pathway → management → growth.

• On-field Training: Explosive strength, 1vs1 & technical stops

Modern goalkeeper applications at competitive speed and match-like intensity.

Day 4

The final day included tactical games and the traditional Challenge Games, filled with intensity, competition, and adrenaline.

The winners of the three categories received professional goalkeeper gloves sponsored by FEARLESS.

All participants received their certificate of participation, signed by Josemi Rodriguez and AGA Head Coach, Christos Lamprou.

In Memory of Velissarios Zafeiroulis

The 5th Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Coaches Seminar was dedicated to the memory of Velissarios Zafeiroulis, who passed away on December 27th.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper had been part of the AGA family in previous years.

A one-minute silence was held during the Camp in his honor.

]]> The Athens Goalkeepers Academy (AGA) is proud and delighted to announce that Giorgos Pappas will continue his career with Rayo Vallecano!

The 16‑year‑old goalkeeper – born in 2009 – takes a major step towards his dream, having agreed on all terms to join the Madrid club’s Academy for the 2025‑26 season. Rayo Vallecano identified his talent, believed in his potential, and is now giving him the opportunity to showcase his skills in Spanish football.

The Athens Goalkeepers Academy played a decisive role in making this move possible. Under the guidance of the AGA coaching team, Pappas has been training and developing for the past four years, following the AGA Training Methodology across all levels. His journey included eight different training and assessment camps, one-on-one sessions, three summer goalkeeper pre-season programs, and three international training trips.

During one of these trips – to Madrid – Rayo Vallecano spotted him during a dedicated evaluation process and offered him a place in their Academy. With AGA’s mediation, the move was successfully completed.

It is worth noting that Giorgos Pappas is the third goalkeeper in the last four years to secure a place in a Spanish club through the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, following Dimitris Stamatakis (2021) and Stamati Orphanos (2024) who joined Atlético Madrid.

Christos Lamprou: We are honored by the trust of top clubs abroad

Christos Lamprou, Head of the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, who travelled to Spain with Pappas and his family to finalize the deal, commented:

“This is the third time in the past four years that one of our goalkeepers has signed for the youth setup of a LaLiga club. ]]> The 14th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar, hosted by the Athens Goalkeepers Academy (AGA) from June 26 to 29, 2025, at Renti Arena, came to a successful close – leaving behind excellent impressions thanks to two top – level guest coaches from abroad.

Manuel Amoroso, Head Goalkeeper Coach of Inter Academy for over two decades, and Colin Stewart, longtime coach for the Scottish FA and former GK Coach of Rangers’ first team until February 2024, trained and mentored goalkeepers and coaches from all over Greece and countries including Cyprus, the USA, Canada, Spain, Scotland, Italy, and Switzerland. Their training sessions and daily seminars delivered world-class knowledge and methodology.

Both guest coaches also evaluated the participating goalkeepers. Several young athletes stood out and have been selected to take part in AGA’s educational trip to Spain this September, where they will be tested by professional clubs.

Among the participants was Greek-Canadian goalkeeper Stamatis Orfanos, currently playing for Atlético Madrid Academy—a result of his initial evaluation by the Athens Goalkeepers Academy.

Scientific Seminars

Two outstanding scientific seminars also took place during the Camp. The first, led by High-Performance Psychologist & Communication Specialist Achilleas Yfantidis, focused on “Essential Skills for the 21st Century Athlete.”

The second was delivered by Sports Nutritionist Dimitris Athanasiadis and explored “Nutrition & Performance for Young and Professional Athletes.”

In both cases, the interaction with athletes, coaches, and parents was exceptional, with the AGA’s expert partners answering dozens of practical questions about mental and physical performance in daily sports life.

Coach Awards Ceremony

On the final day of the Camp, AGA Head Coach Christos Lamprou honored both guest coaches—Manuel Amoroso and Colin Stewart—for their significant contribution to the development of modern goalkeeping.

In addition to their awards, they each received a luxury gift box from Royal Spartan Elixirs, featuring premium olive oil, organic honey, and a 24K gold-plated olive branch.

As a personal gift, Mr. Amoroso presented Christos Lamprou with a collector’s Inter Milan jersey. Mr. Amoroso has been a key figure at Inter for over 22 years, including a period with the first team, and is currently Head Goalkeeper Coach of the club’s Academy.

Final Day: Challenge Games & Prizes

As is tradition, the final day concluded with the exciting challenge games—a fun yet competitive highlight of the Camp. Winners received professional goalkeeper gloves, generously offered by Fearless.

]]> The countdown to the 2025-26 season has officially begun, and once again, Athens Goalkeepers Academy presents a complete Pre Season Program designed to help every goalkeeper return to action fully prepared and match-ready from day one!

From Monday, June 30 to Friday, July 18, 2025, AGA will run a three-week program at Renti Arena, with daily morning sessions focused on three key pillars:

  • Technique
  • Tactics
  • Physical conditioning

Training will take place Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 11:00 am.

This year’s Pre Season comes with surprises! A special part of the program will be led by Leonardo Tavares, goalkeeper coach at FC Porto Academy, who will be in Greece as part of his ongoing collaboration with AGA.

The program is overseen by AGA Head Coach Christos Lamprou, while the physical conditioning sessions will be supervised by strength & conditioning expert Iakovos Hasapis.

]]> The Athens Goalkeepers Academy returned to Crete once again, bringing to Chania – on behalf of partner GK Goalkeeper Academy – one of Germany’s top goalkeeper coaches: Pascal Formann from VfL Wolfsburg!

The experienced German coach, together with AGA Head Coach Christos Lamprou, are the special guests of the 4th Pancretan Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar, hosted by GK Goalkeeper Academy – a founding member of the Greek Goalkeeping Network.

AGA, along with the other academies of the Network, continues to spread high-level European expertise across every corner of Greece. This time, young goalkeepers from Crete have the chance to train under the guidance of one of the most successful GK coaches in the Bundesliga.

The camp’s level is high, and standout goalkeepers will qualify for the next stage of evaluation: the 14th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar hosted by AGA in Athens, from June 26 to 29, 2025, featuring guest coaches Colin Stewart (former Rangers GK Coach) and Manuel Amoroso (Head GK Coach at Inter Academy).

As always, after completing both evaluation stages, selected goalkeepers will have the opportunity to try out with top European clubs.
