The day began with the speech of 16-year-old goalkeeper Giorgos Pappas, who followed the full AGA pathway (Camps, Summer Preparations, Educational Trips) and transferred to Rayo Vallecano in the summer of 2025.

“If it wasn’t for the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, none of this would have happened,” he stated, referring to his trust in the AGA Training Methodology and his journey to Spain.

In Memory of Velissarios Zafeiroulis

The 5th Panhellenic Goalkeeping Camp & Coaches Seminar was dedicated to the memory of Velissarios Zafeiroulis, who passed away on December 27th.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper had been part of the AGA family in previous years.

Both guest coaches also evaluated the participating goalkeepers. Several young athletes stood out and have been selected to take part in AGA’s educational trip to Spain this September, where they will be tested by professional clubs.

Scientific Seminars

Two outstanding scientific seminars also took place during the Camp. The first, led by High-Performance Psychologist & Communication Specialist Achilleas Yfantidis, focused on “Essential Skills for the 21st Century Athlete.”

The second was delivered by Sports Nutritionist Dimitris Athanasiadis and explored “Nutrition & Performance for Young and Professional Athletes.”

In both cases, the interaction with athletes, coaches, and parents was exceptional, with the AGA’s expert partners answering dozens of practical questions about mental and physical performance in daily sports life.

Coach Awards Ceremony

On the final day of the Camp, AGA Head Coach Christos Lamprou honored both guest coaches—Manuel Amoroso and Colin Stewart—for their significant contribution to the development of modern goalkeeping.

In addition to their awards, they each received a luxury gift box from Royal Spartan Elixirs, featuring premium olive oil, organic honey, and a 24K gold-plated olive branch.

Working alongside AGA’s coaching staff and scientific team, the two guest coaches will train and evaluate the participating goalkeepers through daily sessions and seminars.

Who is who

Colin Stewart served as the first team goalkeeping coach for Rangers FC for eight years—until February 2025—accumulating over 400 games on the bench and celebrating achievements such as winning the Scottish Premiership, the Scottish Cup, and reaching the Europa League Final in 2022.

During his tenure, he worked with coaches like Steven Gerrard, Philippe Clement, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and with goalkeepers such as Jack Butland, England international. He has also been an instructor with the Scottish Football Association for the past 15 years.

On the other hand, Manuel Amoroso is the Head of Goalkeeping at Inter’s Academy, where he has been working for over 20 years. During this time, he has developed several goalkeepers who now play in Serie A, including Michele Di Gregorio, Ionuț Radu, Stefano Turati, Filip Stanković, and Ivica Ivušić, a Croatian international.

He also contributes articles on goalkeeper development to major Italian media such as Gazzetta dello Sport and is the author of the book “Il giovane portiere” (The Young Goalkeeper).

Spaniard Toni Doblas from Real Betis and Portuguese Nelson Pereira, who was the GK Coach for Sporting Lisbon for many years, are the two guest coaches at the 13th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar, which will take place from July 4th to 7th at Renti Arena.

These two experienced GK Coaches will teach the secrets of modern and effective goalkeeper training to both goalkeepers and coaches through daily seminars. They will personally train the participating goalkeepers and evaluate them. Those athletes who are deemed ready will have the opportunity to travel abroad for further training and trials with European clubs.

Toni Doblas: The Assistant of Manuel Pellegrini

Toni Doblas has been working with the first team of Real Betis since the 2019-20 season, serving as the immediate assistant to Manuel Pellegrini and goalkeeper coach for international players such as Claudio Bravo (Chile) and Rui Silva (Portugal). During this period, the team has experienced its best performance in LaLiga in the past 20 years, consistently securing positions that lead to European competitions. In fact, over the last three years, Betis has reached the knockout stages of the Europa League and Conference League each season, and in 2022, they won the Copa del Rey in the final against Valencia!

Nélson Pereira: The GK Coach of Rui Patrício Alongside Top Coaches

After a long career as a goalkeeper, playing for Sporting Lisbon and the Portuguese National Team, Nélson Pereira became a highly successful goalkeeper coach. In this role, he worked on the technical staff of Sporting, initially at the Academy and then with the first team for 8.5 years (2012-2020), winning five titles: 2 Portuguese Cups, 2 League Cups, and 1 Super Cup.

During this time, he was the immediate assistant to several prominent coaches such as Jorge Jesus, Marco Silva, Leonardo Jardim, Ricardo Sá Pinto, Jesualdo Ferreira, Frank Vercauteren, José Peseiro, and Rúben Amorim. He also served as the GK Coach for 7 years for Rui Patrício, the starting goalkeeper of the Portuguese National Team, as well as the international goalkeeper Beto!

In recent years, he has worked as a football analyst on Portuguese television.

The “12th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar” ended on Friday (30/6) after four days of training, football action, entertainment, and evaluation at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

It was an international meeting, as dozens of goalkeepers and GK Coaches from nine (9) different countries attended: Greece, Cyprus, USA, Philippines, Switzerland, Portugal, Poland, and of course from Spain and Germany, where the three special guest goalkeeper coaches work.

José Sambade, Pascal Formann, and Arturo González, trained goalkeepers and coaches and evaluated the goalkeepers. The young athletes left an excellent impression, and there are not a few who were marked on the coaches’ notepads. That means they will soon have the opportunity to have tryouts for foreign clubs!

Speech by Giannis Kotsis

The 4th and last day of the “12th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar” started with the speech of Mr. Yiannis Kotsis. The sports scientist of the Human Performance Lab and the Greek national team referred to the importance of the specialized ergometric evaluation for goalkeepers in modern football and the nutrition program they must follow.

Arturo González’s program

Competitively, after the training program of José Sambade and Pascal Formann, it was the turn of Arturo González to present his philosophy.

Sevilla’s Spanish 2nd team goalkeeper coach and first-team scout conducted a seminar on “Transition from second to first team.” He mentioned all the elements the goalkeeper must be trained in: mentally, physically, and tactically.

Immediately after the seminar, everyone went to the SEF football field for the practical part of the training and evaluation.

Awards for the Greek Goalkeeping Network

In between, the Head of the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, Mr. Christos Lambrou, awarded the Member Schools of the Greek Goalkeeping Network, which provided potential “attendance” at the Camp: GK Goalkeeper Academy (Chania), Rizos Goalkeeper Academy (Kavala ), Goalkeeper School Academy (Ilia) and Argolida Goalkeeper School (Nafplio).

At the same time, reference was made to the AGA Agency’s contribution to the opportunities given to young goalkeepers to be evaluated by foreign teams and the importance of proper muscle strengthening and recovery from injuries in the AGA’s Special Goalkeeping Gym.

Goalkeeper Pre-Preparation Summer Camp

The successful “12th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar” may have ended, but the action continues with the Goalkeeping Pre-Preparation Summer Camp. As announced in SEF, a three-week training program (July 3-21, 2023) will be held for one more year at Renti Arena to keep goalkeepers ready to prepare for their teams in the new season (2023-24).

The Athens Goalkeepers Academy warmly thanked for the support and trust of all participating goalkeepers and coaches in the “12th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar”, the parents, the administration of the Peace and Friendship Stadium, the sponsors of Elemis Constructions, New Art, Macron, Mitsos Truck Repair, Royal Spartan, Golden Key, anti-sports.gr, Mira, Vosporos, ”Tsikoudia”, and of course, the media partners.

The “12th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar” Media Partners were Gazzetta.gr and Nova.

The guest coach from the Netherlands, Mr. Rene Stam, was impressed by the participating goalkeepers. He congratulated them for their effort and evaluated them in collaboration with the Head of the Athens Goalkeepers Academy, Mr. Christos Lamprou. In the near future, those who have been deemed ready will have the opportunity to travel to the Netherlands to be evaluated by clubs in the country.

Dozens of goalkeepers from all over Greece and abroad, as well as GK Coaches, attended the Camp. Among them were, of course, representatives of the other four member Academies of the Greek Goalkeeping Network:

• Goalkeeper School Academy (Ilia)
• Rizos Goalkeeper Academy (Kavala)
• Argolida Goalkeepers School (Argolida)

The “2nd Panhellenic Camp for Goalkeepers and Coaches” had a full program of training, evaluation and entertainment.

Goalkeepers, coaches, as well as parents, had the opportunity to attend daily seminars by expert scientists and coaches.

At the same time, on the pitch the goalkeepers followed the training program of Mr. Stam, who has previously worked for 12 years at the Ajax Academy as Head Goalkeeping Coach.
